My practice is primarily focused
on helping those who are struggling
with the effects of trauma, grief,
cultural dislocation, & life transitions or upheavals.
I work with individuals as well as couples/people in relationships on issues such as:
Living with trauma, including trauma that occurred in early childhood.
Family building, including fertility challenges or working through pregnancy loss.
Experiences of interpersonal violence and/or systemic violence.
Compassion fatigue or burn-out due to professional roles and/or life responsibilities as caregivers.
Grief work; death or loss of loved ones.
Challenges with cultural adjustments following immigration.
Relational difficulties that arise from inter/cross-cultural communication.
How I Work
I have extensive training in trauma-focused treatments, including Narrative Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). While I turn to these treatment modalities, among others, in my work, my practice is relational and depth-oriented.
I am drawn to psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theory. That is, I am interested in the myriad of experiences that shape who we become – where we were born, how we were cared for (or not), what social identities we carry and the cultural identities we inhabit… I am also interested in how these experiences are alive within us, in conscious and unconscious ways.
My approach is rooted in the transformative potential of a therapeutic relationship to offer new emotional discoveries and reparative experiences. As each therapeutic relationship is unique, each treatment course will be singular. I consistently bring to each relationship an appreciation for the deep vulnerability and bravery that therapy requires, as well as a commitment to my own growth, humor, and a willingness to be at play.
